Global Warming and Peak Oil

When Bush met with King Abdullah in mid-January, the president asked the oil-rich nation to raise production to ease high prices at the pump. Bush got a chilly response to his plea.

From what I can figure out, Global Warming is nonsense. I make that judgment based on receding ice on Mars and a warning about acid rain by the same crowd that pushes Global Warming. Acid rain is caused by CO2 interacting with water, causing carbonic acid (CO3). Acid rain is a lie because carbonic acid breaks down into carbon dioxide and oxygen within a millimeter or so of the surface and cannot affect bodies of water.

People are also making money off of Global Warming and have a vested interest in preserving their cash flows.

From what I can figure out, Peak Oil is reality. I make that judgment based on the fact that there was only so much old plant life, things like Bush’s visit to Saudi, and gas prices. Also see Paul Chefurka’s excellent work.

We don’t hear about Peak Oil because there isn’t much money to be made in it. Societal response should be to reduce consumption and start a crash program to build hundreds of nuclear power plants. Nuclear power is verboten. Reducing consumption does not require government programs and hurts profits.

Peak Oil is a big deal.

Update: A person with more knowledge than I on acid rain left a good comment on the subject. My reference was to a claim that increased levels of CO2 in the atmosphere will cause the world’s oceans to become acidic. I defer to the comment with respect to other causes of acid rain.

Acid rain is caused by the sulfur content of coal and heavy fuel oils, and nitrogen oxides from just about any high-temerature combustion process in air. Dissolve thise gases in water and you get sulfrous and nitrous acids.
